Branson 2000X AED Actuator Product Description

The Branson 2000X AED Actuator is a compact, rigid pneumatic actuator designed for manual, semi-automated, and automated ultrasonic plastic welding systems. It serves as a core component in Branson's 2000X Series, providing precise motion, force application, power delivery (from the compatible power supply), and cooling air to the ultrasonic stack assembly (consisting of converter, booster, and horn). This actuator ensures consistent high-quality welds with features like dynamic triggering and follow-through, making it ideal for joining thermoplastic parts in industries such as automotive, medical, and electronics. It operates primarily in an upright position but can be mounted horizontally or inverted with manufacturer recommendations. The system includes built-in pneumatic controls (solenoid valves, air cylinder, pressure regulator) and a linear ball-bearing slide with eight preloaded, permanently lubricated bearings for smooth, aligned motion.

Key Features

  • Welding Controls: Supports time/energy/distance-based welding modes; dynamic triggering via S-Beam load cell after preset force; follow-through with springs for consistent force during weld collapse.
  • Precision Monitoring: Linear encoder for distance tracking; pressure sensor for air system monitoring; optical upper limit switch for homing.
  • Advanced Diagnostics: Autotuning for efficiency; amplitude stepping; digital horn tests; process alarms with actual/set values; post-weld seek for retuning.
  • Safety and Integration: Ground detection; emergency stop; PLC-compatible I/O; mechanical stop to prevent horn-fixture contact; ramp starting to reduce stress.
  • Air System: Requires clean, dry, unlubricated air (5 micron filter); includes downspeed control for descent rate and force buildup.
